Properties of Tungsten Carbide
Tungsten is one of the hardest metals known to man. The Periodic Table lists the following:
Molecular Formula: WC & W2C, depending on the carbon content.
Melting Point: 3422 degrees celsius
Boiling Point: 5555 degrees celsius
Hexagonal Crystalline structure
Mohs hardness scale is 8.5 to 9.5 (diamond being 10.0). (Approximate Vickers 1200 to 1700, or Rockwell C 89+)
Tungsten is sintered in varying percentages with Colbalt and other metals, to form a Grit that is suitable for hardfacing applications in a CO2/Mig Weld
Properties of Colbalt:
Colbalt is a hard lustrous grey metal, widely used for wear resistant, high strength Alloys.
Molecular Formula: Co
Hexagonal Crystalline structure
Mohs hardness scale is 5.0 to 5.5 (Approximate Vickers 500 to 800, or Rockwell C Scale 76+)
Properties of Mig Welding Wire:
Mig Semi Automatic or Automatic Feed.
Temperature on the parent metal face varies between 1500 degrees celsius and 2300 degrees celsius.
The product defines the degree of hardness, but is usually below Mohs 4.5 (Approximate Vickers 400 to 500, Rockwell C 41 to 49)
The above facts are based on basic Mig Wire. Harder wires are available which will enhance the Tungsten Carbide application hardness properties.
TACA Grit Mix:
TACA Tungsten Grit is imported from Africa using a specially formulated blend to produce the hardest matrix of coating known to man. The Grit is supplied in scientifically designed Grit sizes, with varying degrees (Percentages %) of fines. Our product is strictly controlled and ensures better adhesion and higher resistance to wear and impact.
TACA Application
The TACA application uses a unique patented process that allows the Tungsten Grit to penetrate the parent material therefore allowing the matrix weld to be impervious to impact. The patented TACA Machine allows no foreign particles into the matrix weld therefore giving the weld a density of unparrallel hardness.
TACA Hardness:
TACA's tungsten coating is formulated to maximise the wear and impact resistance of the application to reap the ultimate benefits of the properties of Tungsten. TACA consistantly exceeds 60+ Rockwell C within the matrix binder. Constant Research and Development is pushing this limit higher, and the new TACA MACHINE achieves even higher percentages on the Rockwell C Scale again.
Summary:
The crystalline structure of pure Tungsten lends itself to being almost comparable in hardness to diamond, in mixing it with various other metals, a useable product is produced which enables the application to be applied to the base metal, and thereby increasing resistance to erosive properties whilst engaged in all abrasive workings. The purer the application the better the product functions. Any impurities encased within the Tungsten Carbide Application Matrix results in increased brittleness and loss of adheasive qualities. This results in early failure. TACA's high quality patented process reduces this to a negligible level. However, the application must be scientifically mixed within the parent material to enable it to fully carry out its designed task, thus providing a Cost Saving benefit in Downtime and Labour etc.
Wearfacing is the process of depositing, by one of various welding techniques, a layer or layers of metal of specific properties on certain areas of metal parts that are exposed to wear. Wearfacing provides protection against abrasion, corrosion, impact, heat, friction and other wear factors.
TACA has developed a new machine with a unique process that impregnates the parent metal with tungsten grit for a much longer wearing product. This produces a tungsten deposit which is stronger than a simple overlay, extending the life of wearing machinery parts, such as tillage points, blades, augers, buckets, wear strips and plates.
The TACA process can extend the lifespan of a point or part, by approximately five times its normal usage. In some cases, up to ten times the life, and even more has been achieved.
Many features and benefits stand the TACA process above existing wearfacing methods including:
Whether it be in the agricultural or the earthmoving industry, one thing comes through loud and clear - nobody likes changing points or components. Apart from it being an expensive exercise, there is far too much down time in the physical side of changing the points or components.
Thanks to the TACA process, this downtime can be greatly reduced.
The TACA concept of Maintenance Contracts across Australia and New Zealand is unique within the industry. Instead of the customer having to send points and components a long distance for tungsten coating, TACA has a local Representative, servicing the local area and dealing with the local wearing problems. This can be an enormous freight saving for the customer.
The local TACA Representative can also supply most consumables in the agriculture and earthmoving points and components, and can supply them with the TACA coating. This is another freight cost saving benefit for the customer. It only takes one phone call to your local TACA Representative, to order points or components and have them TACA coated.

The TACA tungsten coating is the effective way to extend wearlife.
It's pointless without TACA!
The TACA Group of Companies is looking for representatives throughout Australia.
Skills helpful, though not essential, to operate a TACA maintenance contract are a welding background, experience in sales and marketing alongside a knowledge of running a small business.
TACA will provide new representatives joining our group with all the help they need during the set up of their new business. We will also support them as they grow with the help and guidance of our professional staff alongside mentoring opportunities from existing TACA personnel.
As TACA expands and promotes the worlds best practice in marketing techniqes, we will continue to grow within a strong, innovative group.
